Hehominids, or great apes, consists of seven members: two species of gorillas, orangutans, and chimpanzees along with humans. Like humans, apes appear to have the ability to communicate through language, use tools, and form social groups. But monkeys also share our vices, from violent streaks to sexual obsessions. Below are 10 of the most infamous apes we've ever come across, from an escapist orangutan to a chimpanzee who mutilated a woman so badly she needed a face transplant.
Note: One ape that is conspicuous by its absence on this list is the bonobo, which resembles a miniature chimpanzee. While its larger cousins ​​are known for demonic acts of violence, the bonobo has never been observed killing a member of its own species. One of the most notorious figures of this type was Frodo. Born in 1976, Frodo lived in Tanzania's Gombe National Park, among the many chimpanzee families that Dr. Jane Goodall studied. Frodo was extremely aggressive from a very young age and often clashed with others. He was a great hunter of red stump monkeys and was known to throw rocks at people.

9Fu Manchu, the escape artist
In the late 1960s, the Omaha Zoo experienced a bizarre series of escapes. His orangutans, led by the Fu Manchu patriarch, seemed capable of escaping their confinement at will. A door connecting the orangutan enclosure to a furnace room was found open. At first, zoo director Gerry Stones accused his staff of improperly securing the monkeys, saying he was "getting ready to fire someone." Fearing for his work, the guards took a closer look at Fu and were startled by what they saw.
The young orangutan climbed through some ventilation shafts to a dry moat, opened the oven door, and slipped in a piece of wire the way a thief might pick a lock with a credit card. Once again the clan met, but no one could find out where Fu Manchu hid the wire he used in his escape. Then one day, Stones was with the orangutan and noticed something shiny in his mouth: he had secreted the wire.between the cheek and the gums.
Fu was later transferred to a zoo in Brownsville, Texas, where he lived out the rest of his days assuccessful breeder.

Lucy was born in captivity, owned by the Institute for Primate Studies in Oklahoma. She was raised as a human child in the suburban home of Dr. Maurice Temerlin, a psychotherapist and professor at the University of Oklahoma. Pioneer Roger Fouts taught Lucy sign language and he lived a life of luxury, eating at the table with his family, learning to use tools and even making his own tea on the stove. But Lucy definitely had a mischievous side. She once lied about pooping on the ground and claimed it was done by a man. Koko is undoubtedly the most famous gorilla in the world. Born at the San Francisco Zoo in 1971, she learned American Sign Language from another gorilla named Michael, eventually becoming much more proficient than her teacher. Koko had cats and she met the late comedian Robin Williams in 2001, where the two spent the day playing and tickling each other. When Coco found out about William's death, she became melancholic,her lips trembled with sorrow.
But despite her immense intelligence, there is something to suggest that Koko has a cheeky side. In 2005, two former employees of the Gorilla Foundation, which houses Koko, filed a wrongful termination lawsuit alleging strange things were going on around the resident ape. Nancy Alperin and Kendra Keller claimed that Francine Patterson, Koko's trainer, told the women they had tothey exposed their breasts to the gorilla.
The lawsuit, which sought more than $1 million in damages, alleged in part that if the women "did notEnjoy Koko's nipple fetish, your employment with the Gorilla Foundation would be affected.” The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
6Santino throws rocks at zoo visitors

It may seem natural that animals confined in zoos generate some resentment towards those who look at them. But few have the wherewithal or wherewithal to mount any form of retaliation. In 2007, headlines emerged at the Apenheul Primate Park in the Netherlands that its resident male orangutan, 31-year-old Sibu, was refusing to spend time with his females, disrupting their breeding plans. Humans have exploited nearly every species on the planet to their advantage, but the fate of one poor orangutan can only make the decent among us shake their heads in disgust. According to Michelle Desilets, director of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation (BOS), an orangutan named Pony was kept in a village and used as a prostitute for human clients.
The lady of the househe shaved it every two days, he breaks out in pimples and countless mosquito bites and his skin becomes horribly infected. When BOM found out about Pony's dire situation, they tried to save her, but she had become a local favorite of hers. The villagers threatened them with poisoned guns and knives. Finally, a regiment of 35 policemen armed with AK-47s was able to free the orangutan.
Recovery was difficult for Pony. After being treated so horribly all these years, she lacked the skills to live independently in the wild. However, BIM has worked closely with her to help her return to the forest. She can now build her own nest andshows masteryagainst other females.
3Boquito's rampage

Gorillas are by far the largest and most powerful primates in the world, but they are usually peaceful animals, gentler giants than King Kong. Roaring and chest thumping may seem scary, but usually this is just sitting still, to avoid actual violence. That's not to say that a gorilla isn't perfectly capable of holding its own when pushed. There have been several incidents of zoo gorillas chasing visitors after being taunted, including Jabari, whoscaled to a 5 m (16 ft) wall., goes berserk, which proved fatal to the animal.
Another similar attack occurred at the Rotterdam Zoo in the Netherlands. Petronella Yvonne de Horde and her husband visited the zoo almost every day, stopping at the gorilla enclosure to visit a silverback named Boquito, with whom she claimed to have a "special relationship.” De Horde stood by the glass, making eye contact and smiling at Bokito, two gestures the bouncers took as signs of aggression.
Finally, on May 18, 2007, the silver man gave up. He ran away and launched a vicious attack on the woman. His injuries included a broken arm and wrist, a broken arm, and dozens of bite wounds.

It was one of the scariest headlines in recent history. On February 16, 2009, a chimpanzee named Travis threw a tantrum and fought Charla Nash, a friend of owner Sandra Herold.
Travis was a minor celebrity. He had appeared in commercials for products such as Coca Cola and Old Navy and appeared on various television shows. His owners treated him like a child and he had learned to surf the internet, feed his owner's horses and eat at the table with the rest of the family.
On that fateful day, Harold had administered Xanax to mischievous teenager Travis. Travis continued outside and refused to come home, so Sandra called her friend Her Talk to help her. Despite knowing Nash well, Travis attacked her as soon as he saw her.
Sandra Herold immediately called for help.the call to 911she freezes and Harold yells that Travis ripped his friend apart and ate her.
He stabbed his beloved pet with a knife and hit it with a shovel, but the rampage continued. The police finally arrived and Travis approached the car and smashed the passenger side mirror before turning around and opening the driver's door where he was met with a hail of gunfire. The chimpanzee escaped and was later found dead next to his cage.
The injuries Nash sustained during the attack were horrific. Hishands were cut off, and was missing her eyes, lips, nose, and much of her facial bone structure. Her jaw was also torn, but doctors were able to put it back on. The attack was so brutal that the hospital staff caring for her received counselling.
Nash appeared laterOprah Winfrey Show, showing his face in public for the first time. In 2011, she underwent hand and face transplant surgeries. Although her hands had to be removed, her face slowly began tois shaped like your own bone structure.
Sandra Herold died in 2010 of an aortic aneurysm. Nash won $4 million in a lawsuit against Herold's estate, but her attempt to sue the state of Connecticut was dismissed.
